| With
financial assistance from the Virginia
Society of Ornithology, the Center for Conservation
Biology has completed a digital library of all issues of The Raven.
The digital library includes text-searchable, pdf versions of 76
volumes of The Raven from 1930 through 2005. This includes 510 individual
issues and a total of 7,037 text pages.
The Raven is more than the scientific journal of the
Virginia Society of Ornithology, it chronicles the birds of the state,
what is known about these birds and the history of the organization
from its beginnings in 1930 to the present. It is our hope that
this fantastic resource will lead to greater exploration and protection
of birds in our region.
The digital library is organized by year and therefore
the online version requires the download of the entire year you
chose. The PDFs of entire years are quite large, ranging from about
8 Mb for 1989 to over 80 Mb for 1961. This online resource was designed
to be used with high speed internet connections. If you utilize
a slow internet connection extreme patience will be necessary.
Some users have experienced problems with the interactive
PDF start page. If you find that cannot click the year links on
the start page, please download a more recent version of Adobe Reader.
Most problems encountered can be alleviated by downloading more
recent version of Adobe Reader.
The final product is available here
and will soon be available on a single DVD.
Please look over the "Quick Start Guide”
for viewing and searching tips.
